THE SHORT VERSION

Keep your Taipei days grouped by area, and give the Jiufen–Shifen outing a full day instead of squeezing it around city plans.

Before you set the itinerary

Four full days give you time for city neighborhoods and one excursion without treating every stop as a checklist. If you arrive late or leave early, count those as travel days and shorten the sightseeing plan.

Check Taipei Metro’s current tickets and travel-pass guidance for your trip. A multi-day pass only makes sense if its coverage and validity match how you expect to travel; compare it with the journeys you will actually take.

Day 1: Ximending and the older west side

Start with a gentle walk through Ximending, then choose one nearby historic or cultural stop that interests you. Taipei’s official visitor information lists service centers at Ximen and other parts of the city, useful if you want in-person local guidance during your stay.

Keep the first day flexible. A late arrival, rain, or jet lag can change your energy, and the area works as an easy orientation walk without needing to reserve a paid tour.

Day 2: Dadaocheng and a slower city day

Set aside time for Dadaocheng, where the historic trading district and wharf give the day a different feel from the modern business areas. Browse at an unhurried pace and leave room for a meal or a break rather than adding several distant stops.

Use the official Taipei visitor guide to choose another nearby place that suits your interests. Opening hours, exhibitions, and local events can change, so check the current listing before making a specific stop the anchor of your day.

Day 3: Taipei 101 and Xinyi

Spend a day around Xinyi and decide whether you want to visit the Taipei 101 Observatory or simply enjoy the surrounding district. If you plan to go up, check the Observatory’s current hours, ticket arrangements, and access information directly before choosing a time.

Keep this as a flexible skyline day. Weather can affect the view, and a timed ticket may shape the rest of your schedule. Leave time for the neighborhood instead of stacking the day with distant attractions.

Day 4: Jiufen, Shifen, and the north coast

Give the north coast a full day. Jiufen’s hilly lanes and Shifen’s railway-side old street make a memorable change of pace, while Yehliu adds a coastal landscape. Our Jiufen, Shifen, and north-coast day-trip guide compares planning points and a bookable group-tour option.

Choose the order and transportation for your actual date. A group tour can combine several stops and transfers; an independent day gives you more control but requires checking current rail, bus, and attraction details.

Choose a base that suits your days

For a first visit, prioritize a hotel location that makes your planned Metro journeys and evening return simple. Hotel Midtown Richardson is in Taipei’s Ximending area; compare its address and room details with the rest of your itinerary before booking.

Travelpayouts’ current Klook hotel-picks sheet includes this property. The listing and any deal can change, so compare your dates, total price, room type, cancellation rules, and the hotel’s own location details on the booking page.
